IVECO’s HI-SCR technology key to major order from Dawsonrentals Sweepers

Dawsonrentals Sweepers specifies Eurocargo chassis for new medium-range sweeper fleet renewal programme.

IVECO has secured a major municipal vehicle order from Dawsonrentals Sweepers, delivering 46 new 15-tonne Eurocargos into the company’s 700-strong fleet. It marks IVECO’s largest road sweeper order in the UK since re-launching a dedicated Euro VI sweeper chassis in 2016.

Supplied by Brighouse-based Northern Commercials, the new arrivals are ideally suited for the low-speed environment and frequent stop/start nature of sweeper applications. They are the only Euro VI medium-range vehicles to meet emissions standards with a single anti-emission system – IVECO’s unique HI-SCR technology – which utilises passive regeneration of the diesel particulate filter.

This means productivity is increased, as the HI-SCR system requires neither driver involvement nor downtime from forced regeneration. HI-SCR technology also eliminates any requirement for customers to periodically operate the vehicle at motorway speeds to clean out the DPF – which can negatively impact upon fuel use, vehicle availability and driver’s hours.

Johnston Sweepers supplied bodies for 40 of the new left-hand drive trucks, with the remaining six mounted by Scarab.

Paul Shires, Managing Director at Dawsonrentals Sweepers, says: “The HI-SCR system was a huge draw for us. The low speeds involved in sweeper operations means downtime for forced regeneration can be a frequent occurrence. With HI-SCR, there’s no need for our customers to stop to regenerate, and drivers don’t have to push any buttons to operate the system – it’s the perfect solution for the job.”

He adds: “This is the first IVECO order we’ve placed in eight years and we’re putting the new vehicles into service on contracts across the UK. Early feedback has been very positive and it’s given us a lot of confidence in the IVECO brand.”

Powered by IVECO’s Tector 7 engine, the Eurocargo can produce up to 220 hp at 2,500 rev/min, and up to 800 Nm of torque between 1,250 and 1,900 rev/min. Each vehicle is equipped with a 12-speed EuroTronic automated transmission, which offers drivers precision control.

The trucks will be in service with Dawsonrentals Sweepers fleet for at least five years, operating with fleets nationwide, including local authorities and facilities management companies. All service and maintenance work will be carried out within the IVECO dealer network.

Designed as ‘the truck the city likes’, the Eurocargo is ideally suited to urban operations, with an impressive turning circle, great driving position and excellent cab visibility – a vital consideration when operating in busy, congested city streets

Dawsonrentals Sweepers is a trading division of Dawsonrentals plc, one of Europe’s largest asset rental companies. The firm is a supplier of premium municipal road sweeper equipment on rental and contract hire, and also offers specialist municipal vehicles, including gully tankers and refuse collection vehicles.
