Billy Bowie Special Projects grows Stralis tractor fleet

The new arrivals join a 130-strong mixed fleet – which includes Eurocargo, Stralis and Trakker models – and will haul digestates, leachates, sludges and wastewater for local authorities, major recycling companies and utility firms across the UK. The order extends a longstanding relationship with IVECO, stretching back to 1999.

Billy Bowie, Owner of Billy Bowie Special Projects, says: 'The Stralis is a great fit for our tanker work and we always get excellent service from the dealer network. It was only natural IVECO would be top of my shopping list when we needed to expand the fleet.

'Our drivers also love the Hi-Way cab and say it offers much more usable space than in other trucks they've driven. Driver comfort is really important to us, so opting for a big premium cab makes a lot of sense; plus, we've added some optional extras including a 50-litre maxi fridge and full climate control.'

Supplied by Carlisle-based IVECO dealer North East Truck and Van (NETV), each Stralis 6x2 (AS440S46TX/P) is powered by an 11.1-litre Cursor 11 diesel engine delivering up to 460hp and 2,150 Nm of torque. They will operate with lightweight aluminium Crossland tanker trailers, offering an impressive 30-tonne payload capacity.

With an internal height of nearly two metres and more than 10m3 of living space, IVECO's flagship Hi-Way cab has been designed around the driver and offers more than 30 drawers and storage compartments. This makes it perfect for long-distance work, which sees Billy Bowie drivers frequently away overnight.

Billy Bowie Special Projects operates one of the largest Stralis fleets in Scotland, favouring IVECO's HI-SCR engine technology at Euro VI as it requires neither driver involvement nor downtime from forced regeneration. The patented single anti-emission system offers direct benefits including weight reduction, optimised fuel efficiency and increased productivity and durability thanks to a less complex, highly efficient, technology.

All scheduled servicing and maintenance will be carried out by NETV as part of a six-year R&M package supplied with the new vehicles, which will be on the road up to six days a week and are expected to cover around 100,000 km annually. They will remain in service until at least 2025.

Established in 1991, Billy Bowie Special Projects is a specialist in managing liquid wastes and sludges, offering collection, treatment and disposal nationwide. The company is also a major skip hire provider across Ayrshire.
